Teachers Stranded Outside Kuwait For Over One Year, Six Months Set For Return
The competent authorities at the Ministry of Interior, particularly the Land Borders Department and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) started the implementation of procedures on allowing expatriates to enter the country in line with the recent Cabinet decisions, reports Al-Jarida daily.
The recent Cabinet decisions allow the entry of expatriates under certain conditions — the most important of which is complete dosage of any of the corona vaccines approved in Kuwait. This is in addition to holding a valid residence permit or obtaining an entry visa from the Ministry of Interior, as well as other travel procedures like the submission of negative PCR test result and registration in the electronic travel applications. With this development; around 2,000 expatriate teachers — who were stranded abroad due the measures taken to curb the spread of corona — will start entering the country soon. Some of these teachers have been outside the country for more than a year and a half.
Sources disclosed the Ministry of Education had earlier provided its interior counterpart with information about the stranded teachers like their total number and names in order to issue entry visas for those whose residency permits expired while abroad and arrange procedures in preparation for their arrival in the country. Sources said the Ministry of Education launched a special link for the stranded teachers to register on its official website and more than 1,620 stranded teachers have registered as of mid-July.
Sources affirmed the concerned authorities in the Ministry of Education sorted and reviewed the data of 650 stranded teachers, while the issuance of their visas will start in mid-August; indicating the procedures for the other teachers who registered will be completed successively. Sources added the teachers who will arrive in the country will be subject to the health regulations, such as quarantine and others. Sources explained these teachers will be contacted through the contact details and email addresses they put on the official website of the Ministry of Education; where a copy of the visa will be sent, flight reservation will be confirmed and health related procedures are completed to ensure they will be allowed to enter the country.
