10 November 2023 Crime News

Al-Rai daily reports that the Court of Cassation upheld the verdicts of the Criminal Court and the Court of Appeals, sentenced a soldier in the Ministry of Interior to death for strangling a young Bedouin man to death in the al-Julai'a desert, and ordered the civil case to be heard by the competent court.

Lawyer Abdul Mohsen Al-Qattan, defending the victim's heirs, said the verdict should serve as a deterrent to others, and called for its implementation as soon as possible.

The incident, which was the first murder recorded in 2022, is summarized by a soldier from the Ministry of Interior. During initial interrogation, the suspect admitted to committing the crime and said he lost his temper during an argument over disagreements between him and the victim, who had been released from the central prison weeks before the incident after serving 15 years behind bars and was pardoned after serving 10 years.

A report was received in the late hours of the night about the presence of a body in the al-Julaiah camp by the operations room of the Ministry of the Interior, and when the security forces moved in they found the body.

There were clear signs of strangulation, and the suspect turned out to be a deputy officer of the Ministry of Interior. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime due to personal differences.
