Social Affairs Committee Has Concluded Its Report On The Family Abuse Bill
The Social Affairs Committee of the National Assembly has concluded its report on the family abuse bill and made amendments to the children’s rights law, with committee chairman MP Safa’a Al- Hashem. The bill is expected to be deliberated at the beginning of the next legislative term.
The parliamentarian stressed on the fruitfulness of the meeting as the committee was able to conclude the report on the long-awaited family abuse bill which includes 32 comprehensive articles.
Accordingly, a set of amendments to the children’s rights law were also approved to compliment the new law, especially in terms of penalties. The MP asserted that the law will establish an elaborate protective protocol for victims of abuse, and intensifies the penalties for the abuser. She pointed out if the abuser does not comply with the protective measures issued by the concerned authority the penalty is immediate imprisonment for a period of 6 months with community service for repeat offenders.
