Senior Cabinet Ministers Resign

17 February 2022 Kuwait

Minister of Defense and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad Al-Ali as well as Minister of Interior Ahmed Al-Mansour have resigned from government positions.

Al-Rai cited the ministers, saying that under the current political conditions, and given the large responsibilities entrusted to us, it is impossible to accomplish the reforms and development the Kuwaiti people deserve, especially since there has been much conflict and turmoil in the political arena.

The authors added, "the reality has been shaped by historical accumulations and failures at both legislative and executive levels, and we do not exaggerate when we say that since we strive to achieve reform, it has been difficult, especially in the present climate."

Further, they noted, "We swore to serve Kuwait and its people, but at this point the opportunity to serve them was not available. As a result, we decided to resign and give it to others."
