Security Forces Seize 800kg Of Narcotics In Kuwait's War On Drugs

A robust effort by the security services to curb drug dealers and safeguard Kuwaiti youth from the perilous effects of narcotics has resulted in the confiscation of about 800 kilograms of various drugs and about 1.5 million psychotropic pills over the past three months (August to October 2023), as directed by Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior.

Kuwait's success in battling the drug menace is a result of the orders of Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled.

Several suspects involved in various drug-related cases were apprehended and subsequently handed over to competent authorities for legal proceedings under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior.

Sixteen hundred fifty-five kilograms of drugs and 763 psychotropic pills were seized by security services in one day in August. This operation led to the registration of 10 cases involving 15 defendants. Additionally, authorities intercepted 15 kilograms of drugs shipped through postal parcels, along with 7 kilograms of psychotropic substances, resulting in 14 cases against 14 individuals. The month also witnessed the confiscation of 250,000 psychotropic pills and 11 kilograms of narcotics. The defendants were also found in possession of 8,130 pills in a separate seizure.

A total of 180 kilograms of drugs, including hashish and heroin, were seized from numerous defendants in September 2023. Legal procedures were initiated, and the cases were referred to the Public Prosecution.

A total of 128 kilograms of hashish and other illicit substances were seized by security services in October 2023.

In the past three months, the Ministry of Interior has apprehended approximately 190 people of diverse nationalities for drug-related offenses, including drug trafficking and drug promotion. The Public Prosecution was notified of these suspects and numerous cases were filed against them.

According to the Ministry of Interior, 16 defendants have been arrested in 12 cases in the latest seizures two days ago. Among the confiscated items were over 11 kilograms of various drugs, 2 kilograms of Lyrica powder, 3,200 psychotropic pills, 15 bottles of alcohol, marijuana seeds, and four unlicensed weapons.

The accused admitted to possessing the items for the purpose of trafficking and abuse when confronted with the seized items. As well as the confiscated items, they were referred to the competent authority for legal action.

Drug dealers and promoters are being combated by criminal security personnel and all ministry sectors, according to the General Department of Security Relations and Media. In order to prevent drug smuggling at its source, continuous regional and international coordination has been intensified to tighten the siege on smugglers and dealers.
