Regulation Of Kuwait's Labour Market
According to a Kuwaiti newspaper, Kuwait's authorities are preparing to introduce a new "more realistic" policy to regulate the labor market and correct a demographic imbalance.
Al Qabas quoted unidentified sources as saying the new policy involves the signing of well-studied manpower agreements with several countries.
PAM officials held talks with Bangladesh, Mali, and Sri Lankan ambassadors last week on partnerships, including the hiring of specialized and experienced labour from their respective countries.
They added that PAM will continue to develop partnerships with friendly countries, cooperate with all diplomatic missions and representatives concerned with labour affairs, as well as look into mechanisms that will contribute to fulfilling Kuwait's labour directives.
Mubarak Al Jafour, acting director-general of PAM, stressed the importance of employing overseas workers according to Kuwait's needs and requirements.
According to Al Qabas, Kuwait's envisaged employment policy involves bolstering employment of nationals, recruiting foreign experienced manpower according to local needs, diversifying mechanisms to bring in new domestic workers, and conducting daily raids on illegal workers.
The COVID-19 pandemic has repercussions on Kuwait's economy, which has led to calls for curbing foreign workers' employment.
