Private Sector Kuwaitization To Be Postponed By Pam

21 May 2022 Kuwait

Reports indicate that the Public Authority of Manpower's Board of Directors has temporarily delayed the country's Kuwaitization plans for the private sector.

To encourage and augment national labor in the private sector, the amendments were made in line with the Civil Service Commission's decision to raise the percentage of national labor to be hired by private sector companies.

Reports in the media claim that the shelved plan failed to provide any fixed percentage increase for all private companies. PAM instead suggested varying percentages for different categories of companies within the private sector based on whether adding more national labor to that specific category would be beneficial.

Private sector objections to the amendment and an understanding that further research and analysis of labor market data are needed led to the postponement of the amendment. Taking the issue seriously was also influenced by the fact that the government is in caretaker mode.
