Police Uniforms Equipped With Cameras In Kuwait
Kuwait's parliament has approved a proposal for police uniforms to be mulls with cameras so they or citizens can be exposed for "transgressions", a local newspaper reported on Friday.
According to Al Qabas, the proposal calls for law enforcement personnel to keep the devices on while on duty.
Hesham Al Saleh, author of the draft, said that the police are vigilant in safeguarding the security of the people and tracking down violators.
"Sometimes, misunderstandings turn into transgressions, on either the part of the policemen or the other side," he said.
In addition to protecting the rights of both sides, the lawmaker said his proposal would preserve police's credibility and transparency.
A date has not yet been set for a debate by parliament on the motion approved by the Domestic and Defence Affairs Committee of the legislature.
Several police officers have recently been attacked in Kuwait.
A Kuwaiti man was arrested in September after stabbing two policemen in the town of Jaber Al Ahmad, west of Kuwait City, on the day they attempted to stop him from attacking his parents.
An al Mahboula area traffic policeman was fatally stabbed in the month of June by a young Syrian man who fled after killing his mother.
Mahboula crime was dubbed in the local media, and it shook Kuwait and prompted calls for laws to be enforced more strictly and more protection provided to police officers.
