Philippines Earthquake Kills Five And Injures 130

Five people died and 130 were injured after a powerful earthquake struck the northern Philippines on Wednesday.

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck northern Luzon, the country's most populous island, at 8:43 local time (8:43 p.m. ET), according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). As initially reported, the quake had a magnitude of 7.1, but was later downgraded to 7.0.
According to USGS, the epicenter was located about 13 kilometers (8 miles) southeast of Dolores, Abra province, at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles). More than 400 kilometers (about 250 miles) away, the capital, Manila, felt the impact.

In northern Luzon, about 687 million worth of infrastructure was damaged by the quake, including more than 400 homes, dozens of schools, several hospitals and bridges, and the centuries-old Vigan Cathedral and Banta Bell Tower. According to state-run Philippine News Agency (PNA), the Office of Civil Defense reported that more than 21,000 people were affected by the quake.
