Oxford Economics has unveiled its 2024 classification of the best cities globally, with Kuwait City securing the eighth position among Gulf and Arab countries and ranking 293rd overall. New York City, with its impressive population of 20.5 million, clinched the top spot worldwide, attributed to its unparalleled economic magnitude and steady growth.

The World Cities Index assesses cities across five categories: economy (encompassing GDP size, growth, and economic variety), human capital, quality of life, environment, and governance. New York's dominance in the economic domain significantly contributed to its overall top rank.

In the Arab cities ranking for 2024, Abu Dhabi emerged as the frontrunner, positioned 54th globally. Following Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman collectively secured the 92nd global spot. Riyadh claimed third place among Arab cities and 118th globally, trailed by Dammam at 189th and Al Ain at 218th worldwide.

Jeddah ranked sixth among Arab cities, placed 257th globally, while Doha followed in seventh place, positioned 262nd globally. Cairo secured ninth place at 327th globally, with Makkah in tenth at 339th worldwide, and Manama ranking eleventh at 353rd globally. The city of Taif rounded out the top 12 Arab cities, ranking 373rd globally.

London secured the second position in the overall index, excelling in the human capital category due to its concentration of top international universities and corporations, despite grappling with challenges such as high housing costs and limited economic diversity.
