Over 10,000 Children In Kuwait Suffer From Atopic Eczema
It has been confirmed that approximately 30% of skin cases are classified as “eczema,” with the majority falling under the category of “atopic eczema,” according to Dr. Manar Al-Enezi, Head of the Dermatology Department at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital and Treasurer of the Dermatologists Association. She added that more than 10,000 children under 12 are affected by this condition every year, leading to them seeking treatment in hospitals across the nation.
According to Dr. Manar Al-Enezi, Head of the Dermatology Department at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital and treasurer of the Kuwaiti Dermatologists Association, these remarks were made during the launch of an awareness campaign focused on "atopic eczema." Dr. Al-Enezi outlined the campaign’s primary objectives, which encompassed educating the public about the disease, its causes, associated symptoms, and the most up-to-date medical and therapeutic approaches for its management. In addition, she stressed the importance of raising awareness about this condition in order to mitigate its adverse physical and psychological effects on individuals and its effects on their educational and professional performance.
Al-Enezi noted that atopic eczema manifests as dry, itchy, and inflamed skin and is more prevalent in young children, although it can occur at any age. Atopic dermatitis, she noted, is a chronic condition that can vary in severity, occasionally causing discomfort, but it is not contagious. In addition to skin issues, individuals with atopic dermatitis are at risk of developing food allergies, hay fever, and asthma. Regarding the campaign’s execution, Dr. Al-Enezi confirmed that informative brochures and advice were distributed to the public through designated booths within hospital dermatology departments and one at the Avenues Mall. Moreover, she mentioned that the community had provided positive feedback and cooperation with the campaign.
