Onus For Absconding On ‘domestics In Bill’

24 August 2021 Kuwait

MP Abdullah Al-Turaiji has submitted a bill on amending Domestic Labor Law No. 68/2015 in order to eliminate absconding among domestic workers. He suggested adding articles on holding the domestic worker responsible for absconding. He said the bill states that a domestic worker, who escaped from the sponsor, will be deported; and that the worker shall bear the corresponding expenses including the plane ticket and certain fees.

An individual or domestic labor office that hides an absconding domestic worker will pay a fine of KD 2 per each day starting from the day when the sponsor reported the absconding case to the concerned authorities; in addition to compensating the sponsor, he disclosed.
