A fire broke out in a shopping area of Kuwait's Mubarakiya market, injuring at least fourteen people, Kuwait media says.

The fire that is raging and gutting stores is being fought by five firefighting teams, according to reports.

An enormous plume of black smoke is currently billowing into the skies from the locations where the fires are raging.

In an initial report, Kuwait's Fire Force said five brigades "are battling the huge fire" at the market.

Kuwait has experienced two major fires within the last week. Kuwait International Airport, which was under construction, suffered a fire last Monday.

Kuwait City firefighters put out the fire with six firefighters working hard.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire, or whether anyone was injured.
