02 June 2024 Kuwait

Informed sources within the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy have announced that the integration with the Ministry of Interior for collecting electricity debts from citizens will be operational from the beginning of July. Sources informed Al-Jarida that these debts fluctuate daily due to the continuous provision of services, with recent estimates ranging between 125 and 130 million dinars, predominantly for private housing. The ministry remains dedicated to recovering these debts to benefit public funds, now with enhanced collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Justice.

Officials have urged debtors to use the provided facilities to settle their debts promptly, especially in light of the impending link activation. Dr. Mahmoud Boushahri, Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, stressed the ministry’s commitment to preventing the accumulation of debts, ensuring they do not become a burden. Various platforms, particularly electronic ones, are available for debtors to clear their dues efficiently.

The link with the Interior Ministry, finalized last May, allows for the segmentation of debts starting from 500 dinars. Debtors are encouraged to take full advantage of the extensive facilities offered by the Electricity customer service system to settle their dues promptly and avoid debt accumulation.

In related news, Dr. Mahmoud Boushahri, also the Minister of State for Housing Affairs, conducted an inspection tour of the Doha East and Doha West power and water distillation stations. During this visit, he reviewed operational procedures and assessed the stations' readiness for the summer of 2024.

Wael Al-Khamis, Director of the Doha East Power and Water Station, provided an in-depth overview of the facility, while Minister Boushahri toured the control rooms for the thermal turbines. Engineer Muhammad Al-Shammari, Acting Director of the Western Station, briefed the Minister on the station's operations.

Minister Boushahri praised Kuwait’s national workforce, highlighting their significance as a source of pride and honor for the country and the Ministry of Electricity and Water. He emphasized the importance of nurturing and developing the national workforce, both academically and practically, to ensure they can fulfill their responsibilities effectively.
