Mew To Counter ‘silicon’ Fraud With ‘face/finger Print’ Attendance In Near Future

28 October 2021 Kuwait

The Ministry of Electricity and Water has embarked on its ambitious plan to change the fingerprint attendance for all its employees and go for the modern devices to prevent any tampering with the fingerprint by opting the ‘face/finger print’, after the ministry came across several cases of fraud over the past years when some people developed the ‘silicon fingerprint’ to record attendance.

Informed sources told Al-Qabas the fingerprint team has so far completed entering the new fingerprint for about 3 thousand employees out of a total of about 21 thousand working in the ministry.

The sources stated that all extensions and connections necessary to install all the 500 devices at the Ministry’s headquarters and about 170 at work sites affiliated to the ministry have been completed, saying the cost of the new devices is about 340,000 dinars.

The sources indicated that the team allocates a specific place in the ministry for employees to have access to the fingerprint easily throughout the official working period, as the process will take only one minute, taking into account all health requirements.

Sources explained the new devices have already been installed at one of the sites and went into operation on October 9, and the complete installation is expected to be completed within a few months.

She pointed out that there is another plan that the ministry is also working on to keep pace with global development, based on the adoption of the smart devices through the employees’ phones themselves.

The sources concluded that this plan is based on the electronic program that is downloaded to the employee’s phone, so that it works only within the scope of the specified work site through the ministry’s network to confirm the attendance, noting that it is difficult to manipulate this system.
