A Kuwaiti woman tries to sell her kidney for KD200,000 to settle debts.

She installed a big billboard on the roadside in the neighbourhood of Qurtuba asking for KD200,000.

“Kuwaiti woman selling a kidney for KD200,000. Reason to settle my debts and those of my husband”, said the billboard.

According to Al Rai daily newspaper, the announcement sparked public outrage and an outcry among the medical community.

Sources from the Ministry of Health said that “trade of human organs” is criminalised under the Kuwaiti law.

Article 10 of the Kuwait penal law, a person involved in selling human organs faces up to three years in jail and/or KD3,000. The penalties apply to the seller, buyer and doctor as well.
