Kuwaiti Man Allegedly Jumps To Death From Jaber Bridge

A Kuwaiti newspaper reports that Kuwait's coastguard is searching for the body of a Kuwaiti man who is believed to have jumped from a well-known bridge.

Al Qabas said the young man left his car on and his identification card inside before jumping from Jaber Bridge.

Security sources told the newspaper that police received a report about a missing Kuwaiti aged 21 earlier. “After circulating information about him, his car was found on the bridge with his ID card inside it,” the source said.

A search operation is underway for his body as a suicide case has been registered.

The Sheikh Jaber Causeway is one of the world’s longest bridges.

The Kuwaiti media has reported a series of suicide deaths and attempts in recent months.

Last year, Kuwait, a country with 4.6 million people mostly foreigners, recorded 41 suicides and 43 suicide attempts.

Kuwaiti sources reported last October that expatriates attempting suicide face deportation after such attempts increased.

The Interior Ministry has instructed security men to deal firmly with these cases, according to Al Qabas.
