Kuwait Suffers From Nurse Shortages, MP Calls For Urgent Action

In regard to Article 42bis of Disabled Law No., MP Osama Al-Shaheen has contacted the Minister of Social Affairs and the State Minister of Family, Women, and Children Affairs Sheikh Feras Al-Sabah. 73/2020 stipulates that employees with medium or severe disabilities, as well as those caring for them, are fully indemnified.

In light of the ratification of Law No. 8/2010 and its amendment - Law No. 73/2020 - Al-Shaheen wants to know how many individuals covered by this article (the disabled and those appointed to take care of them) have retired.

As well as asking Adel Al-Manea why heads of departments in adult and illiteracy schools are not paid the same special salaries as teachers and heads of departments in regular schools, despite doing the same tasks as teachers, preparing exam questions, and planning lessons.

Muhammad Al-Aiban, Minister of Commerce and Industry and State Minister of Youth Affairs, was asked by MP Jarrah Al-Fawzan what the rationale behind allowing the representatives of companies to check the quality and description of products at PAI; legal basis of this step; list of such companies and the services they offer; and if PAI's laboratories are capable of testing commodities such as food, oil, toys, and others. In that case, he would like to know when PAI began to check local and imported commodities, as well as how much it costs. In addition, he asked if the Ministry of Commerce and Industry collects fees from companies for allowing their representatives to check product quality and descriptions at PAI's headquarters.

The MP Meteb Ayed Al-Anzi asked Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research Adel Al-Manea about the budget allocated for the charity fund that sponsors Bedoun and needy students for the past three years; the number of beneficiaries;

Number of rejected applicants; criteria for approving applications; institutions supporting the charity fund; amount of donations; list of donors and schools receiving a certain percentage of the fund's budget.

Hamad Al-Matar asked Minister of Health Ahmed Al-Awadhi what factors led to the shortage of nurses in public hospitals, what the ministry plans to do about it, whether the ministry asked its counterpart in Higher Education and Scientific Research to allocate more nursing seats for students, and copies of all correspondence if the answer is ‘yes’.

MP Mehalhal Al-Mudhaf asked Minister of Commerce and Industry Mohammad Al-Aiban for a list of companies authorized to export petroleum derivatives and diesel, along with copies of the licenses that PAI granted them.

Further, he inquired about the number of vacant senior positions at Kuwait General Administration for Customs (KGAC) since Al-Aiban assumed office.
