Kuwait Said To Mull Partial Lockdown From Feb 22 To Feb 28
The Al-Seyassah / Arab Times daily has learned from reliable health sources that a partial ‘lockdown’ from Feb 22 to Feb 28 which coincides with the National holidays is on the table of the Council of Ministers.
The sources explained that the aim of the partial ‘lockdown’ during the national holidays is to limit public gatherings during the celebrations, which may increase the number of COVID-19 cases especially since the Minister of Health has spoken of the increase in the number of coronavirus infections and the emergence of new variants which are more dangerous than ‘COVID-19’.
On the decisions issued by the Cabinet regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and expected to come into effect Sunday, Minister of Health Sheikh Dr. Basel Al-Sabah said at the press conference after the Cabinet meeting that “everyone hears about the increase in the number of infections in the world and the emergence of new strains, and we are not isolated from the world,” and warned that things are getting out of control, while at the same time regretting what he called the ‘manifestations’ inaction and noncompliance with health requirements.
The Al-Seyassah has also learned that the decision to impose institutional quarantine on arrivals into the country excludes students and patients undergoing treatment abroad, diplomats and those citizens who are official assignments.
However, the Ministry of Health will announce where quarantine facilities are available. With regard to the airport, the sources emphasized that it is not possible to completely close it at present, as institutional quarantine will be enforced on the returnees.
Tariq Al-Muzrim of the Government Communication Center said during a press conference which was also held after the meeting the Council of Ministers a decision has been issued to postpone the payment of loans installments of the Small and Medium Enterprises Fund for a year.
