Kuwait Municipality Inspection Campaigns Result In Disposal Of 1.5 Tons Foods

Kuwait Municipality has intensified its inspection campaigns targeting shops selling foodstuff, restaurants, stores, companies and cooperative societies as the holy month of Ramadan is fast approaching.

The Public Relations and Media Department at the Municipality said Shuwaikh Food Center, which is affiliated to the Food and Market Control Section in the Audit and Municipality Services Follow- up Department at the Capital branch, inspected meat and foodstuff shops in Shuwaikh. The campaign resulted in disposal of 1.5 tons of foods found to be unsafe for human consumption and issuance of 19 citations for various violations.

The Public Relations and Media Department added that the Violation Removal Department at Ahmadi branch inspected the storerooms of a cooperative society which resulted in the issuance of 22 citations and destruction of 300 kilograms of spoilt foodstuff. The department confirmed that cooperative societies have become the priority of the Municipality due to the rising number of expired food items discovered in these establishments. Also, the Emergency Team at Mubarak Al-Kabeer branch conducted a number of field tours in cooperative societies to check cleanliness and advertisements, in addition to uncovering violations in under construction houses and encroachment on State properties.

This led to removal of 104 violating advertisements, issuance of a citation to the owner of a house that is being constructed prior to obtaining a license and issuance of 12 citations to foodstuff shops and restaurants. This is in addition to review of two complaints about bachelor housing while three gardens on State properties were removed. The Public Relations and Media Department urged citizens and expatriates to call hotline number 1844448 or communicate through social media account @kuwmun in case they notice violations, stressing that relevant action will be taken immediately.
