Kuwait Municipality Approves Shuaiba Rainwater Collection Site

29 March 2023 Kuwait

Kuwait Municipality approves Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport's request to allocate a site for collecting rainwater in Shuaiba area, Al-Jarida daily reports. The municipality referred the request of its director, Eng. Ahmed Al-Manfouhi, to the President of the Municipal Council, Abdullah Al-Mahri, where Al-Manfouhi stated that the technical opinion came in agreement with allocating a site measuring 49,340 square meters, with a water channel with a length of 703 meters, and a connection link with a width of 25 meters in the Shuaiba area within the consultative agreement No AH/I/228 regarding the study, design and preparation of contractual documents and supervision of the implementation and maintenance of rain drainage systems for the northern, southern and western urban areas of Kuwait.

Al-Manfouhi indicated that the municipality stipulated commitment and adherence to the responses of the Sub-Committee for Public Utilities and Services committee at its meeting No. 5/2021 on May 5, 2021 and coordination with it before implementation, which mentioned some observations, including the Survey Department in Kuwait Municipality regarding the site’s conflict with optical fiber lines, and that there is no objection to allocating the site after the approval of the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA).

However, the Kuwait Oil Company said it was found that there are services for the company that are in conflict with or near the project and that before starting the implementation of the project, a full protection of the services must be ensured at the site during and after the start of work on the project.

Besides requesting a technical study, the company also requested that the project be implemented as soon as possible. For the municipality to assess the project's environmental and social impact, a comprehensive study was required, and the administration was authorized to move and modify the dimensions and lengths of the sites and their areas. These areas must not exceed the prescribed areas during installation if they interfere with existing infrastructure services or for regulatory reasons.
