Kuwait Has Tens Of Thousands Of Polygamists

According to figures from the Ministry of Justice's Sharia Documentation Department, there were over 11000 men in Kuwait with two wives. Further, 700 Kuwaitis were married to three women, and 94 Kuwaitis were married to four women, the maximum allowed by religious law.

Dr. Fahd Al-Dhaen, Director of Sharia Documentation Department, elaborated on the polygamy figures by explaining that the first five years of marriage may pose a problem, as the spouses are still not at the point in their relationship where they are willing to compromise.

Kuwaitis also married more frequently in 2021, with the marriage registry showing 11,363 marriages last year, an increase of 16.5% over a year earlier.
