Kuwait Has 4.3 Million Internet And 4.05 Million ‘social Media’ Users

The number of subscribers of telecommunications companies in Kuwait reached 6.51 million in the month of January, according to the data of the international Data Portal Corporation, which represents 8.5 percent of the total subscribers in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, whose number is 76.67 million people.

Statistics prepared by ‘Al-Rai’ showed it was also found that the number of Internet users in Kuwait, who number 4.3 million, represents 5.8 percent of the users of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which number 58.8 million users.


On the other hand, the percentage of social media users in Kuwait, who number 4.05 million users, constitutes about 6.9 percent of its total subscribers in the six GCC countries, which number 58.89 million.

The statistics showed that the number of local phone subscribers decreased by 7.4 percent on an annual basis, constituting about 149.5 percent of the country’s population.

Data Portal figures indicated that the number of Internet users grew by 1.3 percent on an annual basis, to reach about 4.3 million users, representing 99 percent of the number of residents in the country, while the number of active social media users reached 4.05 million subscribers, which represents 93 percent of the population.

Kuwait ranks third among the GCC countries in the percentage of phone subscribers out of the total population, the UAE topped with about 169.4 percent with 17 million subscribers (10.04 million people), Qatar stood second with about 151.8 percent with 4.48 million subscribers (2.96 million people).

Kuwait came first in terms of the number of Internet users out of the total population, with 4.3 million users making up 99 percent of the population, Qatar, Bahrain and the UAE acquired the same percentage, compared to 97.9 percent in Saudi Arabia, and 95.8 percent in the Sultanate of Oman.

Kuwait also came third in the GCC countries in proportion to social networking site subscribers to the total population, reaching 93 percent with 4.05 million subscribers, while the UAE came first with 106.1 percent (10.65 million users), and Qatar second with 99.8 percent (2.95 million people), compared to 87.8 percent for Bahrain, 83.2 percent for the Sultanate of Oman, and 82.3 percent for Saudi Arabia.
