Kuwait Demands Immediate Citizenship Loss For Dual Nationals

26 May 2024 Kuwait

Kuwait is making rapid strides in the field of biometric fingerprint technology, a development poised to complete the Gulf biometric link project and effectively end the issue of dual nationality among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. A special source revealed to Al-Rai that these advancements will expose all cases of dual nationality, eliminating any doubt with certainty.

The source emphasized that previous manipulations with names often created persistent doubt. However, with the new biometric system, even if the complete names of individuals differ between Kuwait and other Gulf countries, fingerprint data will reveal the truth, as fingerprints are infallible.

Implementing biometric fingerprinting will facilitate the closure of the dual nationality file, identifying individuals using different identities and documents across borders. This issue is a major concern for the Gulf region due to its social, economic, and financial implications.

Regarding the future of dual nationals in Kuwait, the source reaffirmed that the law is unequivocal: individuals holding another nationality will have their Kuwaiti citizenship revoked immediately.

When asked about the possibility of choosing which nationality to retain, the source clarified that such choices are exceptional and do not align with the law, which mandates the withdrawal of Kuwaiti nationality without exception.

The source also mentioned that the biometric linking process between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia has already commenced and is nearing completion. This progress follows Kuwait’s successful completion of biometric fingerprinting for its citizens, with a deadline set by the Ministry of Interior for September 30th.

Addressing cases of nationality forgery involving false names, the source stated that these cases depend on complaints from concerned parties. Once reported, the authorities conduct thorough investigations, leading to the loss of nationality and subsequent legal actions.

When asked about the scrutiny of potentially hundreds or thousands of names, the source refrained from speculating on future events.

In related news, the Board of Directors of the Central Agency for Addressing the Situations of Illegal Residents recently convened. The meeting, chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef, included prominent officials such as Saleh Al-Fadala, Ambassador Sheikh Jarrah Al-Jaber, Lieutenant General Pilot Bandar Salem Al-Muzain, and Lieutenant General Sheikh Salem Al-Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. They reviewed and made decisions on several emerging issues.
