Kuwait Deadlines Pullouts On Nov 28
A total of 42 citizens, including two women, on Sunday filed their candidacies for the 2020 National Assembly elections that will be held on Dec 5, 2020. Eight of these 42 citizens, including one woman, intend to obtain a parliamentary seat to represent those residing in the First Constituency.
The only woman among these candidates is Dr Ghadeer Aseeri who previously served as Minister of Social Affairs for a short period, because she resigned due to a grilling motion filed against her.
Also, eight candidates, including one woman, registered to run in the elections as representatives of citizens residing in the Second Constituency; eight candidates – all men – in the Third Constituency; 12 male candidates in the Fourth Constituency; and six male candidates in the Fifth Constituency.
One candidate, Marzouk Fahad Al-Mutairi from the Fourth Constituency, withdrew his application on Sunday, so the number of candidates now stands at 301. Former MPs Shuaib Al-Muwaizri, Muhammad Hadi Al-Hewailah, Askar Al-Anzi, Riyadh Al-Adasani, Abdulkareem Al-Kandari, Osama Al- Shaheen and Hamdan Al-Azmi were among those who filed their candidacies on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Elections Registration Center Director Colonel Salal Al- Shatti disclosed the deadline for registered candidates to withdraw their applications is on Nov 28, 2020 – seven days before Election Day as per the relevant law.
He affirmed the center will continue receiving the applications of citizens who intend to contest the elections until Nov 4, 2020. On Oct 26, the Department of Elections Affairs of the Ministry of Interior opened the door for candidacy for the 2020 National Assembly elections in the 16th legislative term.
