Kuwait Appoints 60 New Prosecutors, Including 13 Women

03 November 2022 Kuwait

According to a local newspaper, Kuwait's Higher Council of Judiciary approved the appointment of 60 new prosecutors in an effort to expedite a policy dubbed "Kuwaitisation."

Al Qabas cited a "well-informed source" as saying that there are 13 women in the new batch.

Added to the source's explanation, "this batch helps speed up the process of Kuwaitising the judiciary and expediting investigations and litigation."

It is the first time in a single year that two batches of [Kuwaiti] prosecutors have been approved."

During the next four years, Kuwait's judiciary plans to replace foreign employees with citizens.

69 new Kuwaiti prosecutors took the oath of office last July.

The COVID-19 pandemic has repercussions on Kuwait's economy, and there have been increasing calls to curb foreigners' employment and tighten up the country's infrastructure.
