I have spent the past two Ramadans in social isolation in an attempt to observe health restrictions and prevent the spread of viruses. With the health situation on the mend, this Ramadan has returned to the purpose it once served: not only a month of spirituality, but also one of social connections.

Dr. Seham Al-Qabandi, professor of Social Planning at Kuwait University, pointed out that studies have shown the benefits of family gatherings for people's mental health.

In a media interview with Amal Abdullah, she said that gatherings did not completely end during the pandemic, but they did take place on a smaller scale with only nuclear family members present.

Additionally, she recommended exercising caution regarding health measures and avoiding exaggerations.

Huda Al-Samhan, a retired educator, said Ramadan gatherings create an atmosphere of comradery and solidarity.

Additionally, she explained that such gatherings are not just about relishing delicious food, but also about sharing information and exchanging ideas, since Ramadan's dinner feasts are brimming with stimulating ideas and humanitarian sentiments.

In response, Huda Al-Toum said that Ramadhan traditions differ from family to family, adding that this Ramadhan serves as an opportunity to rebuild relationships shattered by the covid-19 pandemic.
