Indian Workers Claim They Were Tortured By Their Compatriots In Kuwait
When an unidentified Indian expatriate couldn't find a way to tell the Kuwaiti police that two of her male compatriots were holding her hostage and torturing her, she created a video clip from inside the room where she was held captive and sent it to her relatives in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh via WhatsApp.
According to the Indian newspaper 'The New Indian Express,' a young woman identified only as 'Sravani' appears in the video clip crying and pleading with her relatives to inform the state government to communicate with the concerned Kuwaiti authorities through official channels in order to save her from her ordeal.
In her appeal, Sravani claims that the two individuals known only as Shingal and Bawaji are middlemen who illegally supply domestic employees to Kuwaiti and expatriate houses and that she was initially sent to work for a Kuwaiti family.
"When for some reason I decided to quit employment, both men locked me in a 'filthy' room a few days ago and tortured me physically and psychologically while depriving me of food," she adds in the video.
The victim's parents told The New Indian Express that they had tried numerous times to contact these two guys in order to negotiate with them, but they have received no response.
The distressed maid's husband turned to the local media in India based on the video footage in the hopes of getting her message to the necessary officials in Andhra Pradesh and bringing the issue to the attention of Kuwaiti authorities.
