India Approves Pact With Kuwait On Domestic Workers

24 January 2019 International

The Indian cabinet has approved an agreement signed between India and Kuwait for co-operation on the recruitment of domestic workers, a move that will benefit over 300,000 Indians, Kuwait Times reported.

The memorandum of understanding provides a structured framework for co-operation on matters related to domestic workers and provides strengthened safeguards for Indian domestic workers including female workers in Kuwait, a statement said.

The pact is initially valid for a period of five years and incorporates a provision for automatic renewal.

A joint committee will be set up to follow up the implementation of the MoU, which will also promote bilateral co-operation between the two countries in matters related to domestic workers.

“Around 300,000 Indian domestic workers are deployed in Kuwait. This includes around 90,000 female domestic workers,” the statement added.
