In Kuwait, A Scammer Is Unmasked By Alert People

13 December 2023 Crime News

In a recent incident, an individual, disguised in a police uniform and masked, attempted to scam both Kuwaiti citizens and expats using deceptive methods. The imposter leveraged WhatsApp video calls to inspect phones, persuading individuals to update their bank information and reveal their bank cards for inspection. The ulterior motive behind these actions was to illicitly obtain card numbers and withdraw funds from victims' bank accounts.

In response to this threat, numerous citizens and residents took a stand against the masked imposter, condemning such deceitful practices. Major General Tawhid Al-Kandari, along with Colonel Nasser Abu Salib, spearheaded an awareness initiative to educate the public about fraudulent activities.

It is strongly advised to exercise caution and avoid engaging with video calls from unknown sources, especially those requesting sensitive information. Kuwaiti government ministries typically do not make calls to mobile phones or ask for the display of bank details. In cases where updates are necessary, banks send official messages instructing individuals to visit the bank in person, ensuring a secure exchange of information.
