In 2021, Ibn Sina Hospital Urology Performed 657 Surgeries
Dr. Abdel Nasser Al-Saeed, the chairman of the paediatric urology department at Ibn Sina Hospital, reported that the department had successfully completed 657 procedures of various kinds in 2021. According to a local Arabic daily, Al-Saeed classified the procedures as 40 kidney operations, 16 ureter transplants, 121 endoscopies, 379 "male congenital deformities," 55 cases of undescended testicles, and 46 other cases.
He noted that the Urology unit at Ibn Sina Hospital is one of the few centres in the world that performs endoscopic kidney operations for an age of less than 6 months, a breakthrough that characterises the department globally. He said that recent years have seen the introduction of new endoscopic operations for congenital kidney malformations, amounting to about 90 cases, all of which were successful for all ages.
He stated that the department took part in studies and research at the local, national, and international levels as well as urology-specific conferences. He stated that the department's most recent study, which was presented in June 2022 at the European International Conference in Belgium, focused on children's lower urethras and that "we have experience with up to 1,000 cases in the past ten years, the success rate was approximately 97%, and its results were impressive."
Al-Saeed advised parents to take their children to the doctor as soon as they notice any symptoms in the child that point to a urinary tract infection, to accurately diagnose the condition and follow the doctor's recommendations, to continue giving the child enough water, and to choose cotton clothing for kids that is well-ventilated.
