Salaries have gone up by 600 percent in 15 years in Kuwait, according to the Al Qabas newspaper. Kuwait's budget allotted 12.6 billion dinars for paychecks in the latest budget.

In 2005, 1.8 billion Kuwaiti dinars of the Kuwaiti budget was dedicated to salaries, meaning salaries increased 600% in only 15 years, according to Ghassan Alkhoja, the head of the World Bank office in Kuwait.

In Kuwait, women occupy 17 percent of leadership positions in the public sector, Alkhoja said. The number of working women is greater than the number of working men, making this a very low rate, he said.

According to Kuwait's World Bank Regional Director for the Gulf Cooperation Council, Issam Abu Suleiman, Kuwait's credit rating downgrade presents an opportunity for Kuwait to undertake necessary reforms to achieve financial sustainability.

According to Fitch, Kuwait's credit rating was downgraded from AA to AA- earlier last month.
