Implementation Of Traffic Security Plan By MOI Amidst Students' Return To School

05 February 2024 Kuwait

Following the conclusion of spring break, the Ministry of Interior (MOI) efficiently implemented an all-encompassing traffic security plan in collaboration with its field sectors. The initiative, executed yesterday morning, aimed to regulate traffic flow as students returned for the second semester.

Active participation from the Traffic and Operations Sectors, Public Security Sector, General Administration of Public Relations for Security Media, and Criminal Security Sector contributed to the success of this traffic security endeavor.

Colonel Othman Al-Gharib, head of the press department in the General Administration of Public Relations and Security Media, reported that the MOI deployed early morning security measures on ring and main roads, internal roads, and around schools. This strategic plan aimed to facilitate a smooth transition for students returning to their educational institutions, according to Al-Jarida daily.

Al-Gharib emphasized the significance of adapting departure times for transporting children due to anticipated high traffic density on roads and near schools. A comprehensive media awareness plan, initiated by the Security Media Department and executed by the Public Relations and Traffic Awareness Department at the General Traffic Department, aimed to educate both students and parents.

Major Abdullah Bu Hassan from the Public Relations and Traffic Awareness Department shared insights into the first day's efforts, revealing the deployment of over 300 security and traffic patrols across various roads and school parking lots. Traffic operations were efficiently managed, with officers reprogramming main intersections based on real-time traffic data from the central control room.

Bu Hassan highlighted concerning driver behaviors contributing to traffic density, including entering yellow boxes at intersections and using mobile phones while driving. Emphasizing this year's Traffic Week slogan, "driving without a phone," he urged parents to prioritize vehicle safety, avoid sudden stops, and ensure a smoother traffic flow.

Colonel Al-Gharib identified specific roads with high traffic density, including Sheikh Zayed (Fifth) Road, the Fourth Ring Road, and routes leading towards Kuwait City. Despite the dense traffic, no serious accidents occurred on the ring and main roads, with only a few minor incidents reported.

Major Abdullah Bu Hassan, a member of the Unified Gulf Traffic Week event, announced the commencement of Traffic Week activities, featuring traffic lectures, exhibitions, and a press conference presenting statistics for 2023. The week aims to enhance traffic awareness through educational initiatives and events.
