How Will Covid-hit People Vote During Dec 5 Election?
With the approach of the 2020 National Assembly elections scheduled for December 5, the looming question regarding this issue is about the mechanism of voting for those infected with the COVID-19 virus in a manner that prevents the spread of the virus among the voters, reports Al-Qabas daily.
In this regard, government sources said the election committee formed by the Cabinet had referred the voting mechanism for people suffering from COVID-19 infection to the Fatwa and Legislation Department to obtain legal opinion concerning the matter, avoid any legal shortcomings, and determine whether these people are entitled to vote or not.
They stressed that the Fatwa and Legislation Department will complete its response within a week, and based on its opinion, a decision will be taken in this regard, which would be to allow those people to either vote or not vote according to the recommended mechanism.
The sources indicated that the reason for referring the mechanism to the Fatwa and Legislation Department is the presence of a law that prevents quarantined individuals from going outside, as it is punishable either by imprisonment or fine, due to which the legal opinion is necessary before any decision is taken by the committee.
The sources revealed that the committee also discussed a mechanism to increase the number of electoral commissions in order to handle the numbers of voters in schools, especially in densely populated areas. They said a Cabinet meeting will be held on Thursday, November 12 to discuss the health situation and the mechanisms that will be decided for the elections.
