Houbara Hunters Under Probe - Face Heavy Fines
Not only did an expatriate hunt Houbara birds classified by the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) but proudly spoke of his ability to hunt, reports Al-Rai daily.
To add insult to injury he said “Today God has fed us … God honored me in a certain way but I will not disclose the method I used to kill the bird. Today is December 25, 2019, that is, and in few days we will herald in the New Year.” Again he cracked a joke saying, “This is forbidden, but it is not my mistake.”
In a second clip that complements the first, the man is commenting on the process of skinning and cleaning the bird after killing it by saying: “Bangladeshi youths, may God bless them, will prepare them for cooking. Meanwhile, the Environment Public Authority (EPA) told the daily the expatriate and others who are seen in the video clip have been summoned for interrogation by Environmental Police Department. The men are facing a fine between 250 and 500 Kuwaiti dinars.
The EPA has appealed to everyone living on the land of Kuwait to protect birds and not subject them to any harm in order to protect the ecological balance. Those violating the law will be punished. In November 2015, the Environment Police had confiscated 29 Houbara birds and four men were taken into custody and referred to the competent authorities
