Health And Epidemiological Conditions In Kuwait Remain Stable Despite Eg5
The new Corona variant (EG) has been reported to be on the rise in several countries. Despite concerns about the stability of the epidemiological and health conditions associated with Covid-19 and its variants within Kuwait, Kuwaiti health authorities have assured residents that the virus and its variants are stable.
Al-Jarida daily reports that the few reported infections have been identified and treated swiftly, and that the new mutant is currently "under control, characterized by mild symptoms and low risks, and does not pose a pandemic-level threat."
Internal medicine consultant Dr Ghanem Al-Salem stressed that despite the spread of the new EG. 5 variant of Corona virus and the rise in the number of infected individuals, there has not been a corresponding increase in the need for hospitalization.
Therefore, most people who are infected can receive treatment at home. He further highlighted that with the start of the school season, the potential for virus transmission increases among students. Additionally, as temperatures drop and the fall and winter seasons set in, a significant increase in infection cases is expected, mirroring the patterns seen with seasonal influenza.
Virus mutations continue to emerge, but the associated symptoms do not warrant hospitalization, according to Al-Salem.
In spite of this, he cautioned elderly individuals, chronically ill individuals, and pregnant women to take necessary health precautions to avoid Corona virus or its variants, as well as seasonal influenza.
The Kuwaiti healthcare sector is equipped and experienced in handling Covid-19 cases, he said.
According to Dr Al-Salem, there is no medical need for restrictions on online study and no justification for total or partial lockdowns, underscoring the need for ongoing monitoring of viral cases and mutations.
In order to avoid virus spread, Dr Al-Salem advised individuals experiencing symptoms such as high fever, headache, fatigue, cough, and loss of smell to self-isolate, make sure they drink enough fluids, and seek medical care if necessary.
Kuwait announced in mid-August the detection of the "Corona" variant EG.5, a sub-variant of the Omicron variant of Corona virus, which has been identified in approximately 50 countries so far.
