12 February 2024 Weather in Kuwait

Government agencies in Kuwait are gearing up to tackle an anticipated bout of heavy rainfall following their successful management of a moderate rainwave yesterday. Despite causing minor street flooding and traffic congestion on certain highways, authorities considered this a rehearsal for the more potent rainstorm forecast to hit the country on Wednesday and persist until Friday afternoon.

The Minister of Public Works, Dr. Noura Al-Mishaan, alongside the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs, Dr. Noura Al-Mishaan, visited the operations room to supervise preparations. Emergency teams have been strategically deployed to monitor water accumulation and respond promptly to any emergency.

Ahmed Al-Saleh, the official spokesman for the Public Works Authority, highlighted the coordination between ministry teams and the General Traffic Department to ensure smooth traffic flow, including through tunnels. While traffic disruptions were observed, particularly on the Sixth and Fifth Ring Roads, efforts were made to regulate traffic and minimize disruptions.

Meteorological Director Abdulaziz Al-Qarawi confirmed the continuation of rainy conditions until Friday, with the potential for heavy rainfall, hail, and strong winds. Preparedness measures, including the deployment of emergency teams across Kuwait, have been emphasized.

In preparation for the impending rainstorm, Kuwait Municipality initiated cleaning operations on internal and main roads to prevent water accumulation, in collaboration with the Public Works Authority.

The Ministry of Health has elevated readiness to handle potential health-related incidents arising from the rainstorm, urging citizens and residents to stay indoors and seek medical assistance if necessary.

The Ministry of Social Affairs announced the closure of shops due to rainy conditions, with provisions for reservation changes or refunds available online.

As Kuwait braces for the anticipated rainstorm, government agencies remain vigilant, prioritizing public safety amidst challenging weather conditions.
