Fraudsters Now Impersonate Securitymen To Get Bank Accounts Info

Attempts at electronic fraud reached the extent of exploiting clothes similar to those belonging to security institutions, and making video calls to the victims, claiming to protect them from attempts to rob them of their money. They requested bank information, claiming to protect them from attempts to rob them.

According to Dr. Safaa Zaman, the head of Kuwait's Society for Information Security, fraud operations to steal bank accounts appear to be increasing, noting that in the past two months, about 200 phone numbers have been monitored by the society that appear to be local numbers, causing victims to be contacted and trapped by scammers, pointing out that fraud attempts reached millions of dollars per month until recently, reports Al-Qabas.

These attempts were reported by some who received phone calls from seemingly local numbers requesting copies of their civil cards and bank accounts, claiming to protect their accounts from a hacker. During the video call, the caller referred them to someone claiming to be his official, who appeared wearing a uniform and claiming to be a security official.

In Dr. Zaman's view, what is occurring is nothing more than a new form of fraud, social engineering, in which simple data is exploited to obtain sensitive information unofficially.

It is possible to obtain the victim's telephone number or preliminary information from his Twitter or Facebook account, then call him, send a postal message, call the victim's phone number or impersonate a security guard, according to her, noting that swindlers "exploit human weaknesses, such as greed, fear, and curiosity, including entice wives to click links titled “Your husband is cheating on you” to steal their personal information.
