14 March 2024 Ramadan

Although fasting during the holy month of Ramadan is not obligatory for children, there is a desire among many of them to participate in this noble act of worship just like their parents. Therefore, we must be aware that children’s bodies are more susceptible to dehydration and low blood sugar, compared to adults, reports Al-Qabas Daily. In this context, the pediatric consultant at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, Dr. Khaled Kalender has given several tips for children to fast safely such as: — Gradual fasting according to age and physical ability. — Eat the suhoor meal, delaying it as much as possible, and ensuring that it contains complete nutritional elements. — Pay attention to signs of dehydration or low blood sugar during fasting, such as headaches, nausea, lethargy, dry mouth, extreme thirst, tremors, or excessive sweating. — Stay away from soft drinks and sweetened juices. — Follow up a child with chronic diseases and a diabetic patient with the treating physician regularly.
