Expats Population Increased To 2.96 Million, Kuwaitis To 1.5 Million, According To Data

During the first 6 months of 2022, Kuwait's population increased by 78.71 thousand people, as its total population increased from 4.38 million people in December 2021 to 4.46 million by June 2022, according to data issued by the Public Authority for Civil Information.

65,288 people entered the country by June 2022, bringing the total to 2.96 million, down from 2.89 million by the end of 2021, while the number of citizens increased by 13.4 thousand during the same period, reaching about 1.5 million in June 2022, up from 1.48 million at the end of December 2021.

The total population of Kuwait at the end of last June was 4.464 million, of which 34% were citizens and 66% were expatriates.

58% of Kuwaitis are employed, 73% work in the government and private sectors, totaling 1.9 million, and 27% work as domestic workers, totaling 693.22 thousand.

There are 10 expatriate communities in Kuwait. Indians make up 19% of the population with more than 863,000, and their numbers have increased by 26,928 in the first six months of 2022.

Second place goes to the Egyptians, with 610.86 thousand Egyptian citizens, who together make up 41% of Kuwait's population.

Kuwait has about 1.9 million workers, including citizens and residents, of which 25% are government employees.

Kuwaitis, Egyptians, and Indians accounted for 68% of the country's labor force in the public and private sectors, respectively:

- Kuwaitis: they accounted for 23% of the workforce, amounting to 448.3 thousand male and female citizens.

- Egyptians: they are 23% of the workforce, amounting to 447,850.

- Indians: they make up 22% of the employment in the two sectors, amounting to 429,290.

The government sector employed 483.2 thousand citizens and residents as follows:

- Kuwaitis make up 77% of the government workforce.

- Egyptians constitute 8% of the government workforce.

- Indians constitute 5% in the government sector.

Kuwaiti workers made up the fourth largest group of workers in the private sector, where the highest nationalities working in the sector were as follows:

- Egyptians accounted for 29%.

- Indians account for 28%

- The Bangladeshis 11%

- Kuwaitis make 5% of the workforce in the private sector.

According to the data, Kuwait has 693.22 thousand domestic workers up until June 2022, constituting 26.6% of its total workforce. There are about 642,000 domestic workers in Kuwait, a number made up of four nationalities that represent about 93% of the country's domestic workers. Statistically, they were distributed as follows:

- Indians account for 45.6% of the total domestic workers

- Filipinos make up 23.7% of the total domestic workers

- Bangladeshis take the third spot with 11.9%

- Sri Lankans constitute 11.55% and come in fourth place

There are 29% Indians, 21% Egyptians, 8% Bangladeshis, 8% Filipinos, 5% Syrians, 5% Saudis, 3% Pakistanis, 3% Sri Lankans, 2% Jordanians, and 15% other nationalities.
