Expats In Kuwait Pay Up To 2,000 Dinars For Jobs

This year, the Public Authority for Manpower has arrested the most expatriates living illegally in the country in August, September, and October, with 1,175 arrests, 996 arrests, and 836 arrests respectively.

Kuwait Municipality, Kuwait Public Authority for Manpower, and members from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Commerce, and Kuwait Municipality make up the four-member Joint Committee. As of last October, 5,504 workers – violators of residence and labor laws – were arrested, and legal measures were taken against them in order to deport them.

Based on PAM sources, 2,115 workers holding Article 18 work visas in the private sector and 1,429 domestic workers holding Article 20 were violating the law, representing 26 percent of the total violators, including 28 workers on family visas (Article 17) and 1,910 workers living illegally in the country with expired work permits. According to sources, some of those arrested paid between 1,500 and 2,000 dinars to business owners to recruit them.
