Exodus Of Kuwaiti And Expat Doctors Harm Kuwait’s Medical Services

18 September 2018 Kuwait

The exodus of Kuwaiti and expatriate doctors from the government sector to the private sector or to other countries which offer better working conditions and financial privileges will affect medical services negatively, reports Al-Nahar daily quoting sources from the Ministry of Health.

Sources said the number of Kuwaiti doctors in the government sector is expected to drop from 30 percent to 17 percent in the next five years.

Sources added Kuwaiti doctors usually migrate to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and State of Qatar; while their expatriate counterparts are grabbing offers from America and Australia.

Sources mentioned other migration factors among doctors such as the assault on doctors from time to time considering the country has no law deterring the act, whereas 20 percent of family doctors have moved to administration work.
