Education Minister Acts To Curb Nepotism And Favoritism

21 February 2024 Education

Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Adel Al-Adwani, has taken decisive action to curb nepotism and favoritism in the appointment of supervisory positions within the education sector. Education sources have confirmed that he has stopped the transfer, assignment, and placement of individuals into these roles unless done so directly by him.

This decision is aimed at eliminating any undue influence that may compromise the integrity of the educational process. The minister has requested detailed information on assistant undersecretaries, directors of central departments, and supervisors currently holding positions, including their civil identification numbers, areas of expertise, and years of experience.

Furthermore, the Minister of Education is actively engaged in reassessing performance and devising new selection criteria and transparent mechanisms to identify candidates for leadership roles within the ministry. These measures are intended to uphold the principles of equal opportunity and to attract qualified individuals. Initial assessments of some leaders’ performance have been modest, particularly after reviewing their sector plans within the first 100 days.

This evaluation serves as a basis for identifying areas for improvement and for swiftly identifying and appointing competent leaders who can effectively manage their respective sectors. These changes will extend to the management of the minister’s office, where standards of experience and performance will also be rigorously applied. Overall, these initiatives aim to foster a more efficient and effective educational system that meets the needs and aspirations of all stakeholders in the education field.
