Doubt Raised Over Speakership Race
Dr Sheikha Al-Jassem, who contested the 2020 parliamentary elections from the Third Constituency, filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor yesterday, requesting to investigate what she called ‘fraud’ during the election of the Speaker of the National Assembly on Dec 15, 2020, and demanded the Secretary-General of the National Assembly Allam Al-Kandari be summoned to reveal the truth to the people.
Al-Jassem said in her complaint the ballot papers look suspicious since some of them published by some MPs in the social media Twitter and Instagram appear to carry the National Assembly seal while the others do not and if this is correct the election for the post of Speaker between Marzouq Al-Ghanim and Badr Al-Hamidi be ‘nullified’ since it will amount to tampering with the will of the nation.
MP Saadoun Hammad intends to submit bills aimed at solving the housing issue, one of which allows citizens to add up to four floors in their houses to address the housing problems of those with big families in particular.
Another bill is on the provision of a plot and KD70,000 housing loan for those who were supposed to be beneficiaries of the law covering those who sold their houses but they could not due to the government’s failure to accomplish its task.
