Dgca Geared Up To Resume Full Activity To Pre-covid-19 Era; Approximately 30,000 Passenger Movement Expected Daily

23 October 2021 Kuwait

As the Kuwait International Airport (KUA) is gearing up to operate 52 airlines, the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expecting local and foreign airlines to submit requests to operate flights to and from Kuwait International Airport, whether to increase flights to some of the current destinations or to fly to new destinations that were not operated before or stopped following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The sources told Al-Anba the number of airlines operating at Kuwait Airport will reach 50 or 52, and the passenger movement is expected to be between 25 and 30 thousand.

Meanwhile, Kuwait Airways announced it will operate two weekly flights to Baku, Azerbaijan, on Sundays and Thursdays, starting from November 18.

The Kuwait Airways sources indicated the airline intends to increase the number of flights to Egypt and India destinations, as it is scheduled to operate daily flights to Alexandria, in addition to adding new cities in India.

On the operation of flights to Rome and Milan, the sources said that the authorities in Italy have not yet agreed to operate flights from Kuwait to the Italian capital, while regular flights will be operated to Vienna.

On the other hand, the sources said that “Kuwait Airways” will prepare an operating schedule for all the old destinations that it was flying to before the outbreak of Corona, provided these countries allow and do not have a partial closure of airports or limit the number of arrivals and departures, such as the Philippines, which still adheres to the quota. Kuwait Airways is limited to 51 departing passengers and 45 arriving passengers per day.

Meanwhile, Director-General of the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation, Youssef Al-Fawzan, announced the readiness of the administration in all its operational sectors to implement the Cabinet’s decision to reopen Kuwait International Airport to its full capacity starting from Sunday, to the pre-pandemic era.

Al-Fawzan told KUNA yesterday that the Kuwait International Airport will gradually witness the operation of regular commercial flights for all airlines during the coming period, according to the requirements and needs of travelers, while linking the Kuwait Airport with the largest global airport network.

Al-Fawzan expressed his thanks and gratitude to all employees of Kuwait International Airport for their efforts, dedication and cooperation at all times.
