Depression Affects 16% Of Kuwaiti Youth
According to Al-Qabas daily, Kuwait's mental health survey revealed that 16 percent of young people suffer from depression. One in three people under the age of 16, and one in four people under the age of 30, suffer from depression, according to the study, which was prepared and discussed by the Hero Foundation Service on a sample of 4,372 people in the presence of Sheikha Intisar Al-Sabah, CEO and founder of the “Al-Nowair” Foundation.
Furthermore, 16% of females between the ages of 18 and 39 suffer from depression, and out of every three are psychologically distressed women. According to Sheikha Intisar Al-Sabah, the Al-Nowair Foundation has provided Kuwaiti society with positive tools since 2013 to empower them and build their resilience.
In her words, "We believe in social behavioral change that starts with realizing that each of us can adapt to positive habits that, in the long run, enhance our mental wellbeing and our nation's development." According to her, governments and private companies must work together to improve mental health in society.
According to Al-Sabah, adolescents and young adults feel more unhappiness due to dissatisfaction, while adults are more optimistic. People who felt miserable complained about not having anyone to listen to them, or that they had no one to support them, and their demands focused on improving their quality of life in every way.
A community mental health plan is needed, according to Al-Sabah. In the study, stress that dominates life, dissatisfaction with life, and the lack of psychological rehabilitation were found to be the most prominent factors reducing happiness among Kuwaitis.
