Deportation Prison Suffers Overcrowding Due To Closure Of Airports

31 January 2021 Kuwait

The deportation prison suffers from unprecedented overcrowding due to the limited number of return flights from Kuwait to their countries, Al Qabas daily reported.

The Sources told the daily that, 800 nationals of 5 Asian and African countries are awaiting deportation. Sources also these 800 persons have been staying in the police stations and the deportation prison.

Security officials have attributed this situation to the decision to impose a no-fly zone on 34 countries, noting that it has negatively affected the deportation of nationals of these countries.

Sources have also indicated that most of the detainees are from Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Madagascar. These detainees have been imprisoned for more than 9 months, and some of them are detained with their entire families, including women and children.
