Death Reveals 'bedoun' Woman's Identity

25 December 2023 Kuwait

In a surprising revelation, a woman initially identified as a bedoun in official documents, married to a Kuwaiti citizen, was posthumously discovered to be of Egyptian nationality. The discovery occurred after her recent demise, sparking an investigation by detectives in collaboration with the Central Agency for Illegal Residents.

As reported by Al-Rai daily, security authorities received a report regarding the death of a woman designated as bedoun and married to a Kuwaiti citizen. Following standard procedures, the body was transferred to forensic medicine. However, upon fingerprint analysis, it was revealed that she held Egyptian nationality.

A security source disclosed that a police station was promptly informed, leading to the registration of a case subsequently referred to the General Administration of Criminal Investigation for thorough examination.

Upon investigation, it was determined that the deceased had indeed been an Egyptian national residing in Kuwait under the sponsorship of one of her husband's relatives. Intriguingly, she had left the country in 2000. Despite her actual nationality, her marriage contract and children's birth certificates inaccurately labeled her as "bedoun." Consequently, the Central Agency for Illegal Residents was enlisted to unravel the circumstances surrounding this peculiar case. Simultaneously, the husband was summoned for questioning in connection with alleged forgery and providing false information.

Burial proceedings were delayed pending the outcome of the investigation, and the Egyptian embassy was duly informed of the situation.
