The Court of Appeals upheld the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance which sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to sevenyear imprisonment and his “Saudi son” to seven-year imprisonment with hard labor. It also acquitted a Kuwaiti “poet” who was accused of forgery, according to lawyer Jarrah Al-Shariqa. According to the case file, the P u b l i c P r o s e c u t i o n accused the father (the first suspect) of forging the birth certificate of his son (second suspect) by claiming the latter was born in Saudi Arabia, which qualified him to receive Kuwaiti citizenship. The second suspect was accused of helping the first suspect commit forgery after providing the latter with pictures and money, as well as the fake name “Hamoud” to be added to the citizenship file in order for him to receive Kuwaiti citizenship. He then filed for marriage allowance of KD 6,000. Their forgery was discovered when the “son” went to the citizenship department and claimed he is 18 years old, even though he looked much older based on his physical appearance. The third defendant “the poet” was accused of colluding with the second suspect to embezzle public funds through claims of “marriage”. They were also accused of forging school certificates under the name “Hamoud” as per which he completed grades nine and ten. Even though his actual age was 35 years old, the documents showed that he completed grade 10 at the age of 16 years. However, the court did not find any evidences that indicated that the third suspect had colluded with the other two suspects in any of the crimes.
