Court Orders Arrest Of ‘banks’ Gang’, Adjourned Their Case To Sept 18
The Court of Appeal chaired by Judge Nasr Salem Al- Heid ordered arrest of the “banks’ gang”, adjourned their case to Sept 18, and declined the bail application for two of the suspects.
The court also fixed July 17 to deliver judgment in the case of heresy against a TV radio presenter. In the first case, the court ordered arrest of some 10 suspects from various nationalities including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Palestine and Egypt, as well as a Bedoun (illegal resident) accused of conniving with two others who had previously been arrested to collect over KD1.5 million from different banks with forged documents.
The suspects allegedly collected monies serving as workers support and bank loans. The Criminal Court had initially sentenced two of the suspects to five years in prison with hard labor and referred the civil aspect of the case to the Civil Court.
Meanwhile, the same court decided to deliver judgment on July 17 concerning the allegation of heresy slapped on a female TV presenter, noting the Court of First Instance had sentenced the woman to one year in prison with hard labor.
In another case, the court has engaged the service of a sign language expert to interpret the court proceedings for a Kuwaiti deaf and dumb who is standing trial for theft allegation and convicted for five years by the Court of First Instance. The court will rule on the case July 17.
